Rancho Coastal Humane Society helps companion animals find homes while supporting the people who care for them. Alongside adoption, its Encinitas organization runs foster and volunteer programs, a community pet food bank and services intended to help families keep their animals through difficult circumstances.

There are several ways to take part, depending on whether you can offer a home, regular time or a family activity. Happy Tales gives children a structured opportunity to read aloud outside shelter animals’ enclosures, with advance registration and adult supervision. For ongoing care roles, start with the volunteer team so they can explain the right training and commitment.
